Andrew Shaw already clowning in Montreal, could face suspension (Video)
When the Montreal Canadiens acquired Andrew Shaw from the Chicago Blackhawks and handed him a six-year contract, GM Marc Bergevin praised him as a “character guy.”
While some might dispute that label, this is actually fairly accurate. Shaw is a guy. And he is a character. Which is why he’s already clowning as a Canadiens player, and could be suspended for it.

Shaw’s team was playing the Washington Capitals in an exhibition game on Tuesday night when he may have been slew-footed by Jay Beagle of the Capitals.

In retaliation for this, he decided to take a run at Caps prospect Connor Hobbs against the end boards – hitting him straight up on the numbers, crushing him. Hobbs went down, the referee’s arm went up and Shaw immediately engaged Nathan Walker of the Capitals in a fight:
A fight in which Shaw took a break to egg on the home crowd. Legend, that one.
Shaw was given a five-minute major for boarding, a major for fighting, a misconduct and a game misconduct, amassing 30 penalty minutes for the second-period incident.

Stephane Quintal, head of the NHL’s Department of Player Safety, told journalist Jonathan Bernier at the World Cup of Hockey “just saw it and I don’t like it” regarding the Shaw hit.
