Andrej Sekera acquired by Kings

The Los Angeles Kings have acquired defenceman Andrej Sekera from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for prospect Roland McKeown and a conditional first-round selection.

The 28-year-old Sekera has 19 points in 57 games with the Hurricanes this year after scoring a career-high 44 points last season.

"He's a competitive guy," Kings general manager Dean Lombardi said.

"We have no issues as far as him fitting in here with this group. No question he's going to be hungry. I think there's things he can bring to us. He's very mobile, and even though he's not big, he sure competes. He's a smart player. It was a definite chance to upgrade this team."

During his nine-year NHL career, Sekera has played for the Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres. The Bojnice, Slovakia native was drafted in the third round by Buffalo in 2004.

The dependable two-way veteran will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

McKeown, 19, was originally selected by the Kings in the second round of the 2014 NHL Draft. The pick was acquired from Vancouver in exchange for Linden Vey.
