Former NHL enforcer Andre Deveaux had his contract terminated by Swedish league club Rogle BK following a brutal slash to an opponent prior to a playoff game on Thursday night.

The 31-year-old, who had short stints with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Rangers, made what appeared to be an unprovoked attack on Vasteras IK captain Per Helmersson.

Deveaux was unapologetic after the violent incident and was allowed to play in his team's victory.

"He was fine. I'll think about him while I celebrate with the team," Deveaux said.

Unfortunately for him, he spoke too soon. Rogle announced Monday in a press release that they had terminated Deveaux's contract.

"His actions are indefensible,” team chairman Hakan Eriksson said.

The Canadian forward played only 20 games with Rogle.
