Alexander Shlemenko Suspended After Failing Bellator 133 Drug Test

Alexander Shlemenko, Bobby Lashley Score Impressive Wins at Bellator 162

Former Bellator middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko has been indefinitely suspended after failing his Bellator 133 drug test.

Shlemenko, according to a report from MMAJunkie.com citing sources close to the fighter, failed his post-fight drug test after defeating Melvin Manhoef at Bellator 133 on Feb. 13 in Fresno, Calif. Those sources indicated that Shlemenko failed due to his test showing an unacceptably high ration of testosterone-to-epitestosterone, which is generally indicative of exogenous testosterone use.

California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Foster confirmed to MMAWeekly.com on Monday that Shlemenko violated the commission's banned substance list, but did not reveal the full nature of the violation. He said that Shlemenko had been indefinitely suspended and fined $2,500, the maximum penalty currently allowed by California's regulations.

Foster also confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that Emelio Chavez, who defeated Art Arciniega on the preliminary portion of Bellator 133, failed his drug test. Chavez received a 30-day suspension and was fined $100. He tested positive for marijuana.

Chavez's positive drug test was initially reported by MMAFighting.com.
