Airplane banner trolls Jim Harbaugh's offense over Michigan's spring game

Michigan’s spring football game on Saturday included some advice from the sky.

Someone — apparently a Michigan fan — decided it was a good idea to pay for an airplane to fly a banner over Michigan Stadium as the Wolverines played. It called out Michigan’s offensive playcalling with a message that read “Hey Jim, this is God. It’s OK to pass on first down. Let’s try it.”

There are assuredly better things the person pretending to be God could have used his or her money for. Especially when you consider that Michigan is changing its offense heading into the 2019 season.

Harbaugh hired Josh Gattis from Alabama to be the team’s offensive coordinator and 2018 offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton is no longer with the team.

Harbaugh is apparently giving Gattis free rein too. Gattis told ESPN in a story published earlier in the week that Harbaugh has been content to let Gattis run the show, though the new OC said that Michigan isn’t going to be a team that starts running most plays from the shotgun with five wide receivers in 2019.

"At first it was like, 'OK, I'm about to change all this. We good here?'" Gattis said. "But he's never questioned it. He stressed to me that it's my terminology, my plays, my offense. After that, I didn't need to back to him and ask for approval. I haven't done that once. I think he's enjoying the offense."

Maybe the person paying to fly the banner should have read that story before going through with the idea. Or, better yet, waited to see what Michigan’s offense would look like in Week 1 of the 2019 season.
