AIG misses on Q2, Moonves avoids questions, GM concerned over tariffs

Here’s a look at some of the companies the Yahoo Finance team will be watching for you today.

Investors aren’t happy with AIG’s (AIG) latest earnings report. Shares are getting hammered after the insurance giant reported a big miss on second quarter earnings. The CEO says they are committed to becoming profitable again by the end of the year.

CBS (CBS) and the analysts that cover it are under fire today after the company’s latest earnings call. A CBS official said at the start of the call they wouldn’t answer questions about the sexual misconduct allegations against Les Moonves and the analysts chose not to ask any. Moonves also stuck to the script, talking up ad and subscriber growth.

GM (GM) wants to get around President Trump’s tariffs on one of its most popular SUVs. The automaker has filed an official request with the Trump administration to exclude the Buick Envision from the tariffs. It’s made in China and accounts for about 19% of Buick’s sales in the US.

Microsoft (MSFT) is making a big bet on cybersecurity. Its venture fund just led a $6.2M fundraising round for Hyas, a tech startup that helps fight cyber criminals. The startup says it wants to help police pinpoint the location of the online bad guys so they can be arrested.
