Aaron Rodgers calls out Packers fans sending death threats to Marquez Valdes-Scantling

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling has already made his opinions known about the death threats he says he received from fans over a costly fumble on Sunday in Indianapolis, and now the man throwing the passes to him is speaking out, too.

During an appearance on “The Jim Rome Show” on Tuesday, Aaron Rodgers addressed his teammate’s disturbing social media story.

From CBS Sports:

“I would say that’s extremely unnecessary. I understand the rooting interests in the game and how important it is to so many people, and it’s really important to us, too. But I think that’s very unnecessary. I’m sorry he had to go through that. I’m sure if I was checking social media, I’m sure there would be plenty of games where that happened to me.”

Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s fumble

Those “unnecessary” threats stemmed from Valdes-Scantling’s fumble in overtime against the Indianapolis Colts. On the Packers’ first possession of the extra period, Valdes-Scantling had the ball knocked out on a catch-and-run, which the Colts recovered. Four plays later, kicker Rodrigo Blankenship made a winning 39-yard field goal.

Following the Colts’ 34-31 win, Valdes-Scantling, who had three catches on six targets for 55 yards, tweeted what was happening on his social media platforms.

The third-year receiver expanded on those thoughts a day later, calling those threatening him “social media cowards” and saying he posted his tweet to “get people to understand that we’re humans, too, we’re not just some number on a jersey, that we’re people first,” per ESPN.
