For kids in Manatee and Sarasota counties, this weekend marks the start of their first full week of summer vacation.

While we are all happy that school is out, if you are looking for summertime activities, be sure to read our weekly events guide.

Village of the Arts market

At the Bradenton Village of the Arts market, sip on botanical tea while enjoying the local music, artwork, and good vibes..

Shop local vendor and enjoy exotic botanical Teas, KAVA and coffee.

The popular Village of the Arts restaurant Birdrock will be serving its craft tacos at the event.

Roller Derby

The Bradentucky Bombers, a roller derby team from Bradenton, face a squad from Gainesville.

Watch as the skaters demonstrate their athleticism and tactics in this high-intensity game.

SUMMER FUN FOR KIDS

Astro Skate Schools Out All Night Skate

Astro Skate is kicking summer off with a bang with its all-night skating events.

Tickets are $29.99 plus the cost of rental skates. There will be a TikTok dance contest, a jam skate contest, and other activities throughout the night. If you want to get in on the fun, be sure to get there in enough time. All students must be in the skating rink by 10 p.m.

Community Baptist Church S.O.C.K.S

This Saturday and every first Saturday until the end of summer vacation, Community Baptist Church will host its S.O.C.K.S event, which stands for summer outings for community kids. It’s a free event for kids ages 5–11. A special event for kids ages 2–5 will be held in August.

On Saturday, kids should wear a bathing suit or shorts and a T-shirt because there will be water activities.

There will also be games, snacks, crafts, giveaways, and Bible lessons. The purpose of the event is to develop children’s knowledge of God’s Word while providing them with enjoyable experiences.

‘Kids and Clay’

For children aged 6 to 100, Sarasota Clay Company will hold a clay hand-building session. Children under the age of five can get free adult assistance.

Between now and July 29 the session will be held every Saturday. The cost for the class is $20 per person.

PERFORMING ARTS, SHOWS AND EXHIBITS

“Journey Through Time” by Reflex Arts Dance at the Manatee Performing Arts Center: Dancers from the Reflex Arts Dance Studio in Sarasota will have a dance recital on Saturday.

There will be Jazz, tap, hip-hop and other dance performances.

“Man of La Mancha“ at the Asolo Repertory Theater: “Considered by many to be one of the best musicals of all time, Man of La Mancha is brilliantly reimagined by celebrated director Peter Rothstein, who immerses us in Miguel de Cervantes’s retelling of Don Quixote and his quest. This epic and poignant journey celebrates the perseverance of one man who refuses to relinquish his ideals and who is determined to see life not as it is but as it ought to be,” the Asolo website says.

Selby Botanical Gardens exhibit: Tiffany: The Pursuit of Beauty in Nature, the Jean & Alfred Goldstein Exhibition, will be on display at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens.

The exhibition, which is the first of its kind to be held in a botanical garden, highlights the inspirational relationship between Tiffany Studios and the natural world through one-of-a-kind, immersive horticultural displays in the Tropical Conservatory and outdoor gardens, along with key examples of Tiffany’s work.
