A 20-year-old dad drowned in Virginia over Memorial Day weekend, leaving behind his pregnant wife, officials and family members say.

Dakota Fulk was attempting to swim across the lake at Stoney Creek Resort when he became distressed and went underwater just before 7 p.m. Saturday, May 27, the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post. Fuller’s body was recovered from the lake just before midnight.

The sheriff said Fulk had been at the campground with his wife and other family members when he drowned.

Fulk worked as a mechanic, according to his obituary. He loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his friends.

In December, Fulk married his wife, Serenity, his obituary said.

Fulk had a 3-year-old son, and his wife is expecting a child in July, according to a GoFundMe started for the family.

“You don’t plan for someone this young; they don’t have arrangements made,” Fulk’s mother, Frannie, told WHSV. “We’re not supposed to be burying 20-year-olds that are expecting their second child.”

Other family members and loved ones shared tributes for Fulk on social media.

“We will never be whole again,” Fulk’s stepmother wrote on Facebook. “A piece of us will always be missing.”

“It don’t even feel real,” another person posted. “I can’t even think straight. You were one of the realest people I had.”

“My sweet baby boy is now my sweet angel,” his mother wrote in a Facebook post.

Stoney Creek Resort is about 110 miles northwest of Richmond.
