Saskatchewan's Haydn Fleury, Rourke Chartier headed to World Junior camp

Two Saskatchewan hockey stars are one step closer to fulfilling their dreams of representing Canada.

Defenceman Haydn Fleury, of Carlyle, Sask., and forward Rourke Chartier, of Saskatoon, Sask., were named to Canada's World Junior Championship selection camp.

Moose Jaw Warriors captain Brayden Point, of Calgary, Alta., also received an invite on Tuesday. Point was a member of Canada's gold medal winning team last year.

Out of the 30 players announced on Tuesday, only 22 players will be selected to wear the maple leaf at the World Juniors.

Fleury, 19, has recorded seven goals and 11 assists with the Red Deer Rebels this season.

Chartier received an invite to the camp despite missing several games this season with the Kelowna Rockets with an injury. The 19-year-old had a spectacular 2014-15 season, finishing third in the WHL with 48 goals.

Point is off to a great season with the Warriors. He's notched 43 points in only 19 games this season.

Plenty, Sask., product Kelly McCrimmon will serve as the team's assistant coach.

Canada will hold its selection camp from Dec. 10-14 in Etobicoke, Ont. The team is expected to finalize its roster on Dec. 20.

The 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship starts on Boxing Day in Helsinki, Finland.
