A 2-year-old girl died in a Kansas City hospital after entering a Missouri lake without a life jacket, authorities say.

The girl was taken to the hospital following the incident Monday, June 5, at Table Rock Lake in the Ozarks, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Highway patrol officers said the 2-year-old “entered the water in an unknown manner” and went under water.

The girl, who has not been publicly identified, died Wednesday at Children’s Mercy Hospital. She was from Ozark, about 30 miles north of Branson.

Patrol officers are referring to her death as a drowning, making it the second Table Rock Lake death this year. In May, 80-year-old Thomas Crain died after being thrown from a boat, according to state highway patrol.
