On 2/22/22, couples from across the US flock to Las Vegas for ‘Twosday’ weddings

Couples from across the country chose an extra special day to tie the knot — 2/22/22 — a palindrome date that won’t occur again for 200 years.

Tuesdays have historically been an unpopular day of the week for weddings, according to Quartz. But this “Twosday” is different.

In Las Vegas, the city that calls itself the Wedding Capital of the World, the rush to get married on 2/22/22 is especially pronounced. Clark County Clerk Lynn Marie Goya told Good Morning America that the county expected it to be “one of the five highest dates of all time” for the number of weddings, “including Valentine’s Day.”

As a result, some wedding chapels have been fully booked for months in advance, KLAS reported. Among those is the Lucky Little Wedding Chapel, which began doing weddings at midnight on Feb. 21 and will continue until midnight on Feb. 22 to accommodate everyone, the outlet reported.

And some couples are traveling from far and wide just for the occasion. Michigan residents Maeola Bowman and Andrew Nassar came into town for their wedding at Caesars Palace, and Wisconsinites Sam Zimmerman and Shaun Tutor made the journey to get married at the Flamingo Hotel & Casino, ABC News reported.

Rachel Sneed, a staff member at the Lucky Little Wedding Chapel, said that in spite of the surge in bookings, every couple will get to feel special during their ceremony.

“We’re just taking our time with each one,” Sneed told KLAS. “We have a lot of staff. So the couple is not going to feel rushed.”

Whether the date 2/22/22 has any special meaning varies from person to person. But according to celebrity astrologer Aliza Kelly, repeating numbers can create a feeling of connection to the cosmos.

“For some people, they may see a repeating number … as an affirmation of sorts, a sort of green light from the universe that they’re on their right path or that they’re protected,” Kelly told Allure, adding that some people refer to such numbers as “angel numbers.”

Others are skeptical, including Morten Heedegard, a “numbers geek” from Denmark who created a website in 2016 counting down to 2/22/22, The Washington Post reported. But even though Heedegard said he’s “not sure there’s any bigger meaning for it,” he thinks the date might make for a good opportunity to feel more grounded amid the confusion of the last several years.

“I tried to make a tweet at one point, addressing the United Nations to make that the day of self-celebration and self-care,” Heedegard told The Washington Post. “They didn’t respond.”

The skepticism over the meaning of such numbers hasn’t stopped people from choosing them to commemorate special occasions. Goya, the Clark County clerk, told ABC News that other top dates for weddings have included 7/7/07 and 11/11/11.

And weddings on the special date are taking place not just in Las Vegas, but all over the country. For example, some North Texas courtrooms have dozens of weddings planned for the day, according to NBC DFW, and 22 couples in Long Island will say “I do” in individual ceremonies on “Twosday,” ABC 7 reported.
