11-year-old boy arrested, charged with armed robbery, assault in Washington, D.C., police say

An 11-year-old boy was arrested in connection to multiple incidents, including an armed robbery and an armed assault, this month in Washington D.C., authorities announced Monday.

The preteen is facing charges including robbery while armed and assault with a dangerous weapon.

The crime spree started on May 21, Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police said in a news release.

Around 2:45 p.m. local time that day, police were called about a robbery and when they arrived, they were told someone approached the victim and told them to hand over their belongings. When the victim refused, the suspect pulled out a gun and the victim surrendered, police said. The suspect took the items and ran off.

The next incident came three days later when police were called just before 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday about an assault. Witnesses told authorities that two suspects on bikes approached the victim. The victim pushed one of the suspects away and ran off. As the victim ran off, they saw one of the suspects pointing a gun in their direction, police said.

The last robbery happened Friday just before 7 p.m. when officers were called about a suspect on a bike who rode up to the victim and told them to hand over their property. The suspect reached into a fanny pack “as if they were armed,” police wrote in a news release. The victim gave up their items and ran off while the suspect rode off on a bike, police said.

The preteen was arrested Saturday and charged in all three cases, police said.

The cases are still being investigated.
