103-year-old Blue Jays fan runs the bases at Rogers Centre

No matter our age, gender or race, we should always have the freedom to dream big.

It also wouldn’t hurt to have the moxie of 103-year-old Blue Jays fan Kitty Cohen, because she found a way to make a big dream come true on Saturday.

Cohen, who threw out the first pitch at Rogers Centre two years ago, wanted to do it even bigger if given another opportunity to step on the field. This time, she wanted to circle the bases like her favorite Blue Jays sluggers, and her mission all started with a letter to Blue Jays skipper John Gibbons.

Here’s more from ESPN:

A letter arrived in his office in Dunedin, Florida — with no return address listed — from Cohen, a Toronto resident and longtime Blue Jays fan. She informed Gibbons it was her dream to one day “run” the bases at Rogers Centre.

Admiring her moxie, Gibbons felt he had to find a way to make it happen, so, with the help of Holly Gentemann, the Blue Jays’ manager of player relations, they tracked down the nursing home where Cohen lives and arranged a date to make her wish come true. Saturday was that day.

With some assistance from her walker and on-field coaching from Gibbons, Cohen circled the bases in grand style. According to witnesses, she went especially hard to first base, running through the bag like she was attempting to leg out an infield single. We will emphasis again that she ran through the bag, and didn’t slide head first. That tells us she’s coachable.

From there, Cohen finished her 360-foot journey with urgency, cutting second and third base with precision before heading toward home. Once there, she celebrated with her pink feather boa, took pictures and even signed an autograph for Gibbons.

The whole scene was pretty cool. Credit to the Blue Jays and Gibbons for making this dream come true.
