Player Notes
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that teams have "checked back in" with the White Sox on Jeff Samardzija, but it's "still not that likely" he's traded.

Advice: The White Sox sit only 3.5 games out of a Wild Card spot and appear poised to hold their assets and possibly even add to the club. FOX Sports' Jon Morosi says the club is keeping an open mind and hasn't completely ruled out dealing Samardzija. The righty's fantasy owners surely would prefer a trade given the home park he's in and the poor defense behind him. The good news is that he's been really good of late in spite of those factors, posting a 2.66 ERA over his last eight starts.

Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press hears that the White Sox will be buyers at the trade deadline.

Advice: This comes on the heels of FOX Sports' Jon Morosi saying that he thinks it's likelier that the Tigers trade David Price than the White Sox trade Jeff Samardzija. Chicago has won six straight to creep back into the Wild Card race and it appears they'll be content with a compensation pick for Samardzija rather than a package of prospects.

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi thinks there's a "better chance" that the Tigers trade David Price than the White Sox trade Jeff Samardzija.

Advice: The White Sox suddenly have a better record than the Tigers after winning six straight and might decide to make a run at a Wild Card spot. It's certainly still possible another club makes an offer for Samardzija that they can't refuse, but the righty has pitched really well of late and Chicago could just settle on receiving draft pick compensation for him if he leaves as a free agent.

Jeff Samardzija allowed four runs over eight innings in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Samardzija cruised through most of the first eight innings, allowing only two runs, but he stumbled trying to close out the game in the ninth. The right-hander allowed a run and another inherited runner scored after he left, depriving him of a quality start and marring his overall line on the night. Samardzija gave up seven hits and a walk in the game, striking out three in what could be his final start with the White Sox. If he's still in a Sox uniform come Sunday, Samardzija will take on the Yankees.

According to Dan Hayes of CSNChicago.com, the Blue Jays have been most aggressive on Jeff Samardzija.

Advice: Hayes adds that the Giants are also interested. Samardzija owns a 3.91 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 108/26 K/BB ratio in 140 1/3 innings this season with the White Sox and he's been especially dominant lately. The 30-year-old impending free agent should yield a nice return package. It looked for a while like the Pale Hose might have to sell low on him.

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Blue Jays "remain in active discussions" with the White Sox about Jeff Samardzija.

Advice: The Jays will almost surely add an impact starter at the trade deadline and Samardzija could be the most likely target, as they've been linked to him for a while now. The big right-hander has disappointed overall with the White Sox this season but has been terrific of late with a 1.71 ERA in four July starts. Samardzija, of course, will be a free agent after this season.

Jeff Samardzija held the Indians to one run in eight innings Thursday to pick up his seventh victory.

Advice: It'd be best for Samardzija's future if he got a trade, but he's made that a little less likely to happen by allowing a total of six runs over 31 2/3 innings in his last four starts, three of which turned into wins for the White Sox. It's still more likely than not that he'll go, but the White Sox think they might yet have a wild card run in them.
