Player Notes
Phil Hughes picked up a quality start against the Royals on Sunday, allowing three runs over six innings for his first Twins victory.

Advice: Hughes wasn't perfect, giving up nine hits and a walk in his time, but his offense gave him more than enough support to pick up his first win of the season. The numbers still aren't pretty for the right-hander, as he now has a 6.43 ERA and 1.67 WHIP through four starts. His next will come Saturday against the Tigers.

Phil Hughes allowed four runs on eight hits over five-plus innings against the Blue Jays and was saddled with his first loss in a Twins uniform Tuesday.

Advice: Hughes was rolling right along until the sixth inning, when he allowed the first four batters to reach base. All four came around to score -- two after Hughes had exited the game -- marring what had been an otherwise positive performance for the right-hander. The fact that it was Hughes' first loss as a member of the Twins speaks less to his prior effectiveness as it does to his run support in those outings, though, as it was his third straight start allowing four runs. On a brighter note, he did strike out seven batters over his five innings, giving him a 17/5 K/BB ratio over 15 innings thus far. Hughes will continue looking for his first win of the season in Sunday's tilt at the Royals.
