Player Notes
Fernando Rodney pitched a perfect ninth against the Rangers for his third save Saturday.

Advice: It was Rodney's first appearance since he took a loss and a blown save on Tuesday. He lowered his ERA from 16.20 to 12.46 with the outing.

Mariners skipper Lloyd McClendon said late Tuesday that he is committed to Fernando Rodney at closer.

Advice: Rodney gave up four runs to the A's in a non-save situation on Saturday and he blew a save Tuesday night against the Dodgers, but the M's won't abandon ship yet. "Here’s the deal," said McClendon. "People fly off the handle and say, `Rodney stinks. We need to change. Get another closer.’ OK, when that doesn’t work out, then what? You want me to go back? Or do you want me to try somebody else? That’s how all hell breaks loose."

Fernando Rodney blew the save on Tuesday, serving up a walk-off two-run single to the Dodgers.

Advice: Rodney allowed four runs in a non-save situation against the Athletics on Sunday after notching his first two save opportunities. Against the Dodgers, he allowed back-to-back singles to start the ninth inning. He was helped by a Carl Crawford sharp grounder to third base, as Kyle Seager threw home to induce a run-down. However, he seemed to pitch around Adrian Gonzalez and walked him to load the bases. Howie Kendrick then lined a two-run single to right field to bring in the tying and game-winning runs. It's Rodney's first blown save since July 20 last year. Rodney's hold on the closer's role is secure for now, especially after leading the league with 48 saves in 2014, but he'll be under the microscope after his last two outings.

Fernando Rodney allowed four runs in the ninth inning of an eventual 8-7 win over the A's on Sunday.

Advice: The Mariners handed Rodney a 7-3 lead and he then proceeded to undo all of their hard work. Josh Reddick led off the inning with a double. Rodney then walked Marcus Semien before allowing a two-run double to Sam Fuld and an infield single to Mark Canha. After a walk to Ben Zobrist and a run-scoring Billy Butler double-play, the score was 7-6 Mariners with two outs. An Eric Sogard single tied the score at seven. Got all that? In a disturbing quirk of scoring, Rodney picked up the "win" after Nelson Cruz homered in the 10th.

Fernando Rodney picked up his second save of the season Saturday in the Mariners' defeat of the A's.

Advice: Rodney retired all three batters he faced in the bottom of the 11th inning -- one via strikeout. The veteran right-hander should be a high-level fantasy closer throughout the season on a good Mariners team.
