Christmas in August.

The International Ice Hockey Federation will indeed reschedule the 2022 World Junior Hockey Championship, planning to slot it behind the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Mid-August, president Luc Tardif said Thursday.

"It will be a hockey festival, and the teams are excited to do it,"

The slate will be wiped clean after four positive cases of COVID-19 shut down the tournament in December, meaning the records and stats from the view game played will be scratched from the record.

According to TSN's Darren Dreger, August 8-19 is the target.

It’s expected that countries can select new rosters, which means some difficult conversations will be had, but the age requirements will bend to allow anyone eligible in December to participate in the tournament.

The IIHF will also reschedule the 2022 U18 Women’s World Championship, which was scratched off the international schedule before it could begin. It’s expected that it will take place in June.

Host cities and dates for all rescheduled events have not been finalized, though it’s expected that world juniors will once again be in Alberta.

The IIHF is hopeful it can stage the 2023 World Junior Championship in Sweden.
