WrestleMania 32 picks and predictions
We once again rounded up the snarky wrestling fans at Yahoo and asked them for their predictions for WrestleMania 32. Leave your picks in the comments section.
Roman Reigns vs. Triple H
Andreas: Roman Reigns
Reigns using the traditional entrance versus the walk through the crowd could be a red herring for a heel turn. It’s the only way to make sense of this Roman Reigns IV that has been forcefully injected into the WWE universe and is constantly rejected. I honestly don’t get how the WWE could allow their biggest show to end with its force-fed babyface being booed by 100K fans … unless he’s a heel. Either way, I don’t’ see any scenario where Triple H retains.
Anthony: Roman Reigns
Reigns has been pummeling Triple H in the weeks leading into WrestleMania and I suspect that is being used as an attempt to get the fans behind him before his big win in Dallas. WWE has been trying for more than a year now to get the belt on Reigns; it’ll happen Sunday. Also expect The Rock to play a role in counteracting Stephanie McMahon’s presence ringside.
Joey: Roman Reigns
I can’t remember a more toothless main event at WrestleMania. Part of it’s due to injuries, but mostly it’s due to Triple H’s ego and the company’s refusal to abandon this insipid Roman Reigns mega-push.
Marcus: Triple H
I fear for the safety of my Nissan Sentra rental car if WrestleMania 32 ends with Roman Reigns as champion. For that reason, I’m going with the fan-favorite, corporate authority figure.
Shane McMahon vs. The Undertaker
Andreas: The Undertaker
I’m trying to find a scenario where “Shane-O-Mac” can defeat The Undertaker and it could be digested. But if you book this match in a similar fashion as the WrestleMania 31 Sting-Triple H match with ridiculous run-ins, it could be an entertaining melee that makes sense. However, with the new stipulation that The Undertaker will be in his last WrestleMania if he loses, I expect Shane to take a few ridiculous bumps here for his dear old dad and The Undertaker eventually getting the pinfall.
Anthony
: Shane McMahon
Much like any “Shane-O-Mac” match, there will be plenty of “OMG” moments here, but it’s going to be hard for this contest to live up to its billing. I can’t see this ending cleanly, and why would the WWE bring back Shane for a month? With all of the McMahon-on-McMahon feuding, an interesting curveball would be Vince helping Shane win and the two of them ousting The Authority.
Joey: The Undertaker
I don’t see a scenario where Shane McMahon wins, but that doesn’t mean he’ll lose, per se. More likely they’ll both turn against Vince McMahon, and “Shane-O-Mac” will get a solid resolution to his welcome return.
Marcus: The Undertaker
I am more interested in what sneakers Shane McMahon is going to wear than the actual match. ‘Nuff said.
Dean Ambrose vs. Brock Lesnar
Andreas: Brock Lesnar
There’s a scenario where Dean Ambrose throws the kitchen sink (literally) at Lesnar to pin him clean. However, it might be more beneficial to have Ambrose go the Steve Austin route and be beaten to a bloody pulp but refusing to stay down for the 10-count. Lesnar stays strong before he vanishes until the summer and Ambrose makes a true run at the WWE championship as the biggest babyface on the roster.
Anthony: Brock Lesnar
I’m calling it now; this will be the best match of the night. These two stars will absolutely destroy one another, but it’s going to be hard for Dean Ambrose to beat Paul Heyman’s beast. Even with the ghosts of hardcore legends past in his corner (we may see some cameos), I expect Lesnar to walk (limp?) out victorious. The end of this match will be something to watch as I expect the next storylines for these two stars to come out of it.
Joey: Brock Lesnar
Dean Ambrose does the job because Lesnar can’t lose this match straight up. Ambrose gets rewarded later in the year, maybe even the night. It’s 2015 Seth Rollins all over again.
Marcus: Dean Ambrose
Paul Heyman, if you are reading this, don’t judge me. Ambrose could benefit from a win over Brock Lesnar, especially since the Roman Reigns experiment continues to sputter.
Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch
Andreas: Becky Lynch
Charlotte has the Divas title, Sasha is probably the most memorable NXT women’s champ and Becky hasn’t won anything. Conventional wisdom says that this is where Lynch shocks the world and becomes the new Divas champ by pinning Charlotte and the still never pinned Sasha will make a run at the title following WrestleMania. Lynch has worked her tail off and finally deserves her moment in the spotlight.
Anthony
: Sasha Banks
Charlotte has hands down been the MVP of the Divas division for the past six months. Her in-ring performance is stellar and she has grown to become arguably the biggest heel in WWE. That said, it’s time for a change and Sasha is ready to carry the division for a while. A Sasha title reign would open up several other creative options as well as please the fans. This will be the best Divas match we’ve seen since the Divas Revolution started and hopefully gets the time it deserves.
Joey: Charlotte
Like most of the WWE Universe, I adore Sasha Banks, but the smarter play is to keep Charlotte strong as a heel with a cheap pinfall. Wild card: a couple WWE legends get involved to offset the Ric Flair’s inevitable antics.
Marcus: Sasha Banks
A new women’s championship is rumored to be coming the night after WrestleMania 32. Sasha Banks would look good with that new hardware.
Intercontinental Title Ladder Match
Andreas: Kevin Owens
The only storyline worth mentioning (and unfortunately muddled by having too many people in the match) is Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn. The WWE has done a horrible job making the WWE universe care about the Owens-Zayn feud since bringing Zayn to the main roster so this will be their opportunity to jump-start the rivalry with Owens finding a way to rob Zayn of his moment.
Anthony
: Dolph Ziggler
Right off the bat, you can eliminate Zack Ryder, Sin Cara and Stardust. Those superstars’ inclusion is more about the lean roster than anything else. Ziggler has been a thorn in Kevin Owens’ side for a while now and it’s hard not to think K.O.’s attention will be focused on Sami Zayn. I think we get an Owens-Zayn feud out of this and Ziggler is able to steal the Intercontinental title.
Joey: Samy Zayn
It’s an upset special, but you can’t ignore the insane buzz he generated in NXT. A win by any of the other six participants would feel routine, and a show already lacking star power needs to get Zayn way the hell over.
Marcus: Kevin Owens
Canada has been completely shut out of the upcoming NHL playoffs. The least we can do is keep the Intercontinental championship on the Quebec native.
Ryback vs. Kalisto:
Andreas: Ryback
It’s a classic big guy vs. little guy match. But something tells me that Ryback’s new push as a bruising heel will see him utterly destroy Kalisto to take the title. If not, this whole resetting of Ryback was a total waste.
Anthony
: Ryback
Kalisto is talented and it’s nice to see a smaller guy get some time as a singles champion, but right now I think he’s better off being part of the Lucha Dragons and injecting some much-needed life into the tag team division. Ryback’s stock as a heel is rising and he has become a more entertaining all-around performer. Between John Cena doing so much for the United States Championship and WWE relegating matches to the pre-show, it has been hard to get excited about it during Alberto Del Rio and Kalisto’s reign.
Joey: Ryback
Feed me less.
Marcus: Kalisto
Feed me no more.
Chris Jericho vs. A.J. Styles
Andreas: A.J. Styles
Why these two are still feuding and in a match without a stipulation is beyond me. But Styles has been one of the hottest guys on the roster and Jericho is known to put over new talent at WrestleMania (Fandango, anyone?). It’s time to stick a fork in this rivalry because it’s done.
Anthony
: A.J. Styles
This will very similar to the Randy Orton-Seth Rollins match from last year. There’s not much on the line for this one, but fans will eat it up as it shows off two of the best in the company. Jericho, one of my all-time favorites, has been great in his most recent return to the WWE and has helped Styles get as over as any other guy on the roster. Styles wins, we get a handshake (again) and we see both guys move on from this.
Joey: A.J. Styles
The brass ring folks are apparently surprised by how well Styles has gotten over. You can’t make this stuff up.
Marcus: A.J. Styles
It took wrestling nearly 15 years in the indies but A.J. Styles is finally getting his WrestleMania “moment” on Sunday, and that’s pretty cool.
Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
Andreas: Kane
He's old, on his way out and nobody else makes sense.
Anthony
: Braun Stroman
Stroman gets his WrestleMania moment here in what will be – barring a surprise entrant – the most forgettable match of the night. You’ll see Big Show toss a few guys, Kane wreak some havoc, and a few dramatic near-eliminations. This would have been a perfect spot for a guy like Neville to shock everyone, but as is the case with many other stars, injury will prevent that.
Joey: Curtis Axel
There’s no way he wins. I don’t care. Long live Axelmania.
Marcus: Mark Henry
Retirement is reportedly right around the corner for the ex-Olympian and Texas native. What better way to send Henry out but with a win in front of 100,000 people at AT&T Stadium.
