Michael Jordan cheers on Roger Federer at U.S. Open

Roger Federer launched his Instagram account today with the help of another all-time great.

"It was an honor meeting one of my childhood idols today #MJ. Also, this is my first @instagram. How’d I do?"

I’d say he did pretty well: The photo earned more than 29,000 likes and 21,500 comments. More than 125,000 people are already following the account.

The photo of Federer and M.J. was snapped shortly after the two announced that they’d collaborated on a Nike tennis shoe that Federer is wearing during the U.S. Open.

"About a year ago, I heard that Roger wanted to design and wear a Jordan shoe on the court," Jordan said, according to Style.com. "I have followed Roger's career and have been a big fan for some time now. I definitely thought this could be a really unique and special collaboration, and when I heard that Roger wanted the shoe to be modeled after the Air Jordan 3, I was in."

The shoes are far from the only thing they have in common. Jordan won six NBA Championships. Federer is currently 33, has won more Grand Slams than any other male tennis player, and is seeking his sixth U.S. Open title this year.

Wearing the white sneakers with a red Air Jordan logo, Federer won his first-round match, beating Marinko Matosevic 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), as Jordan sat in the second row near Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

Federer says he's been a Jordan fan since high school – he even had a Jordan poster in his room, according to a photo tweeted by Tennis History.

But on Tuesday night, it was Jordan sitting in the stands, cheering on Federer.

Editor's note: This story has been corrected. The original version stated that Jordan first retired at 33. He first retired at 30.
