Tottenham Hotspur was ousted by Fiorentina in a 2-0 road defeat (3-1 on aggregate), and Liverpool could not conjure up more magic in Istanbul as the Reds lost to Besiktas 5-4 on penalties. The shootout continued the struggles of goalkeeper Simon Mignolet and defender Devan Lovren as Mignolet failed to stop a shot and Lovren missed the fifth penalty to send Besiktas through.

Everton salvaged the day for the Premiership with another dominant performance against Young Boys in a 3-1 home victory (7-2 on aggregate). Romelu Lukaku, coming off a hat trick in the first leg, added two more goals and Kevin Mirallas scored in the 42nd minute to give the Toffees a commanding 3-1 halftime lead.
