Jamar Ergas, top Canadian recruit, clears 7-foot announcer to win national dunk contest

Jamar Ergas has been hyped as the hope of the Great White North and a more athletic Demar Derozan, to name but two of his many accolades. He gained national attention here on Prep Rally after he completed a remarkable 360 slam during a game while he was still 14.

Now, Ergas seems to have taken his dunking talents to a whole new acrobatic level, clearing a 7-foot announcer to win the dunk contest at the ScoutsFocus All-American camp in late June.

As you can see above, Ergas leapt directly over 7-foot contest announcer "Da Bigg Show" without so much as touching his head. That elevation fits in nicely with combine testing Ergas did at the ScoutsFocus event, which measured his no-step vertical leap at an astonishing 39 inches and his total vertical at 44 inches, nearly four feet straight up.

The teen, who continues to play his AAU summer ball for Ro Russell's Grassroots Canada program, is expected to continue competing for Kevin Boyle's Montverde Academy program in Florida, a flourishing prep school set up that is rapidly emerging as a potential national power.

Whether or not that happens in the coming seasons remains to be seen, but if Ergas is on board that can only help, both in terms of national attention and results.
