Streaker interrupts Olympic torch relay

A streaker interrupted the Olympic torch relay on Tuesday, minutes before the flame was set to row down the Thames River with British rowing legend Steve Redgrave.

Police in Thames Valley said a 27-year-old man was taken into custody and charged with "suspicion of outraging public decency."

Outrage? If you listen to the audio of the edited video at the Telegraph's website, you'll hear shouts of laughter from the assembled crowd. The Brits love few things more than a good streaker.

Not that we condone the practice. As The Evening Standard noted (and the picture above shows), there were many schoolchildren in the crowd to watch the torch pass by.

The man had "Free Tibet" painted on his back and carried a mock Olympic torch. He was taken away in a blanket by police. Unedited video of the streaker's jaunt through the streets is available on a number of websites, but we won't link to it. Nobody wants to see that.

In unrelated news, it appeared to be a chilly summer's day in London.
