Shaun White leaves practice with a black eye

Shaun White is headed home after a week of training with a black eye, but not a bruised ego.

White skipped the X Games in order to nurse an ankle injury he sustained during the Olympic qualifiers, but that doesn’t mean he slowed down. White spent four days practicing on a private halfpipe and slopestyle course in Cooper Mountain, Colo., where he had a nasty fall that left him with a substantial shiner under his right eye.

Despite the crash Bud Keene, White’s coach, said that the four days on Cooper Mountain was just what he needed.

Keene told The Associated Press that White is “110 percent ready” for the Olympic Games in a few short weeks.

On Monday White posted a photo of his black eye on Twitter with the caption: “Still in the fight for Sochi!”

White plans to spend a few days at home in California before he goes to Germany, where the U.S. Olympic Committee will give all the competing athletes their final paperwork and instruction.

White will compete in two events in Sochi. The slopestyle event is on February 6 and the halfpipe will take place on February 11.
