Popular trick-shot team visits USOC Training Center

Three years ago, a group of Texas A&M students began filming basketball trick shots in their backyard. When their videos became a YouTube hit, they expanded their range of filming locales.

This week, their latest shoot took them to the USOC Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., where they were invited to take trick shots and try several Olympic sports, including wrestling, fencing and gymnastics.

The group, known as "Dude Perfect" thanks to a remark made by one of the members while he was framing a shot for the camera, visited various Olympians and Paralympians at the complex. Only two of the athletes, gymnast Sean Melton and sprint cyclist Giddeon Massie, tried their hand at trick shots. Melton made a mid-air shot after propelling himself over the vault, while Massie made a football-style shot from the top of the stands into a hoop on the cycling track.

One member of Dude Perfect, Cory Cotton, sunk a shot from the roof that went over the giant Olympic torch at the complex. Another member, former high school quarterback Tyler Toney, closed the video with what he dubbed "a long shot for London," a football-style shot that sailed over an entire basketball court before going in the hoop.

With more than 73 million YouTube hits according to its website, Dude Perfect knows the kind of audience the Olympians will have this summer. Hopefully, the athletes can perform as well as Dude Perfect did during its visit.
