Hope Solo says U.S. soccer team was drunk for ‘Today’ show interview at Olympics (VIDEO)

U.S. women's soccer goalie Hope Solo told ESPN The Magazine that she and her Olympic teammates were drunk for their "Today" show interview after winning the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics.

"When we were done partying, we got out of our nice dresses, got back into our stadium coats and, at 7 a.m., with no sleep, went on the 'Today' show drunk," she said. "Needless to say, we looked like hell!"

Judge for yourself. I think Solo looks very nice, except for that unfortunate nose ring. She acquits herself well too, other than accidentally saying "World Cup" instead of "Olympics" before correcting herself.

Solo's recollection may be a little off, probably on account of her being hammered and all. "Today" indeed airs at 7 a.m. on the East and West coasts of the United States. But that interview was filmed in Beijing with a 12-hour time difference. Unless it was taped, they probably shot that at night.

Regardless, they certainly weren't the first nor the last people to appear on "Today" with a little buzz. With Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford hosting the fourth hour, that's practically a prerequisite these days. Shoot, a little imbibing was the only way to make it through the Ann Curry era.
