Watch Dmitri Yudin embarrass KHL goalie on behind net deke (Video)

Dmitri Yudin is a 20-year-old defenseman for SKA in the KHL. Entering last Friday’s game against Ugra, he had one career goal in 123 games.

In other words, he’s not exactly the guy you’d expect to unleash a wicked little deke move while going behind the net, as evidenced by the reaction of goalie Georgy Gelashvili on said wicked little deke move. (We call this “Marek Malik Syndrome.”)

Yudin noticed that Ugra was changing, and rocketed up the left side. Defenseman Yakov Seleznyov dropped down, defending a pass, so Yudin took the puck behind the net.

Or so we all thought! As Gelashvili whipped around to the other post anticipating a wraparound, Yudin stopped, brought the puck back to the near post and tucked it past a baffled netminder.

Quite the second career goal, that one.

In fairness to Gelashvili, he was closed off by his defenseman from sliding back to this right. He was also pretty shell-shocked at this point, as Yudin’s goal made it 6-2 and the game ended 7-2 for SKA. Was being left in for all seven goals some sort of penance for getting suspended thanks to a fight during his previous game?

Nice offensive moves by Yudin. His coach was no doubt proud, as he knows a thing or two about a thing or two about offensive defensemen: Sergei Zubov!
