Watch this awesome ‘Bobby Orr’ goal from Maxim Khudyakov of KHL (Video)

Using “Bobby Orr Goal” to describe a hockey play is always a little awkward. It’s basically shorthand for “guy flying like Superman through the crease,” although nothing it’s applied to will have the historic heft of the Boston Bruins legend’s goal.

Still, this goal by Maxim Khudyakov of Barys Astana is pretty amazing. And more than a little bit lucky, but hey, it’s not like he didn’t earn that luck.

Against SKA on Thursday, Khudyakov drove to the net around former NHL great Ilya Kovalchuk. KHL fan favorite (one assumes) Slava Voynov actually breaks up the play with his stick, but the puck hopped up and deflected off of Khudyakov. He stumbled through the Voynov check, and took an off-balance swipe at it into an open net.

Khudyakov then flew through the air for the aforementioned “Orr-esque” play, before celebrating an awesome tally. Alas, it would be his team's lone goal in a 5-1 loss.

Khudyakov is a 29-year-old forward from Kazakhstan. And this goal was very nice.
