Watch college ref's accidental collision with defenseman lead to goal (Video)

The game of hockey is a fast one and while officials are incredibly good at not interfering with play, sometimes it happens, and sometimes it affects play.

Take for example Friday night’s Hockey East meeting between Vermont and New Hampshire. The Catamounts won 5-2, with their fourth goal coming thanks to an accidental pick play from referee Kevin Keenan on Wildcats defenseman Brett Pesce:

That was junior defenseman Dan Senkbeil benefiting from the collision and netting his first collegiate goal for Vermont. Initially, Keenan waved it off, but after brief discussions it was ruled a good goal.

Tough break for Pesce and New Hampshire, and you know Keenan feels terrible about the collision. But one unfortunate play leading to a goal wasn't the reason the Wildcats dropped the game.
