Toronto honors Darryl Sittler's 10-point game with tribute, unlucky goaltender (Video)

It has been almost 40 years since one of the NHL’s more unbreakable records was set when Darryl Sittler notched 10 points for the Toronto Maple Leafs against the Boston Bruins.

The game happened Feb. 7, 1976, but with the Maple Leafs about to embark on a long roadtrip, this was the last chance for the team to honor the Hockey Hall of Famer around the anniversary at the Air Canada Centre. Thursday’s game for Toronto is against the New Jersey Devils.

Above was a video the Leafs played for Sittler before the game, where he scored six goals and notched four assists. The prior record was eight points, set by Maurice 'The Rocket' Richard.

Dave Reece, the goaltender who allowed all 10 points to Sittler in the 11-4 loss to the Maple Leafs was in attendance and helped Sittler drop the ceremonial first puck. Many of Sittler's former teammates were also in th e building.

The video included commentary from hockey legends who were part of the game, such as Dave ‘Tiger’ Williams, Borje Salming, Don Cherry and Red Kelly.

“All of a sudden it’s 40 years? It could be a record for a lifetime,” said former teammate Lanny McDonald.

Eight points remains the second-most scored in a game by a single player. This has been achieved a total of 13 times.

On Feb. 2, 2012, Edmonton Oilers forward Sam Gagner scored four goals and added four assists to notch the league’s first eight-point game since 1988. Both Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky each notched eight points twice in their careers but never more.
