Three goals, 10 seconds: Fastest hockey hat trick ever, scored by 8 year old?

The fastest hat trick in National Hockey League history was tallied by Bill Mosienko of the Chicago Blackhawks against the New York Rangers on March 23, 1952 – three goals in 21 seconds.

Just over 62 years later, his feat was bested by an eight year old.

Brayden MacIntosh of Hanover, Ont., scored three goals in 10 seconds this week in a WOAA championship tournament final against the Goderich Sailors.

“It seemed really fast,” MacIntosh told CTV.

How fast was the trick? His coach missed two of the goals.

"There were only a few minutes left, I thought we had the game under control so I was talking to one of the kids and all of a sudden the crowd started screaming again. So I missed the third goal too," says coach Mark Dosman to CTV.

Here’s his first tally, in which MacIntosh skated down the wing, deked the goalie and scored.

The second goal, when MacIntosh split the defense off the faceoff and scored on a breakaway? Awesome.

That third goal, when he fired the puck off the wing and, well, the goalie invited the puck to stay for a while in the net? Hey, it’s not how you score’em, but whether you score’em right?

Is it the fastest hat trick of all-time? Well, a 10-year-old player needed 19 seconds for a natural hat trick last October. And obviously it smokes the NHL record. But before we get the Guinness World Records people on the line, we’d probably have to factor in the game clock. Because that was a rather long 10 seconds, no?

In any event, heck of an achievement for Brayden MacIntosh, who seems pretty good … in the sense that he scored 107 goals this season. NHL teams are already tanking for the 2024 Draft.
