Stanley Cup Playoff time means local music anthems, fans participating in various superstitions and local businesses getting into the act of supporting the home team with unique ideas.
The Chicago Blackhawks have advanced to Round 2 and are up 1-0 in their series with the Minnesota Wild. Sure, they were helped by a three-goal third period and a big Friday night from Patrick Kane, but more than likely their win was due to the powerful mixture of dough, tomato sauce and cheese.
Punky's Pizza and Pasta in Chicago has come up with a special pie just for the Blackhawks as they attempt to win back-to-back Stanley Cups:
This would make a fine addition to the NHL Food Logos post we had several years ago.
Here are some details via Justin Breen of DNA Info:
"We're just doing it for the fun of it, and we're doing it to show our support for the Blackhawks more than anything," said Punky's owner Vince Scarlata, of Bridgeport, who said his place sold about 20 Hawks pizzas Friday.
The pizza, which sells for $18.95, is topped by mozzarella cheese, plus black olives used for the logo's hair and eye and peppers representing its multi-colored feathers and earring.
You can only buy this special pie on game days and according to manager Bobby Phillips, who came up with the idea, it will not be pre-cut, in case customers want to take a picture or/with it.
The Blackhawks pizza made its debut ahead of Game 1 Friday night, which means it's undefeated. If Chicago takes 2-0 series lead Sunday afternoon, we may just have another dog-pooping-on-Patrick-Sharp's-lawn thing going on here.
