Swedish prosecutors order arrest of Andre Deveaux after slashing incident

Andre Deveaux’s contract was terminated Monday by Swedish side Rogle after video surfaced over the weekend showing him viciously slashing an opponent before a game last week. He, along with the victim of the attack, Per Helmersson, played that night, as well as with Sunday’s final game in their playoff series.

After talk of charges being laid swirled, a warrant has now been issued for Deveaux's arrest after authorities viewed the footage.

From Sweden’s The Local:

“He is wanted on suspicion of assault,” prosecutor Margareta Danielsson-Olvon told The Local.

“An investigation is ongoing. We don’t know where he is and have put out a warrant for his arrest.”

Helmersson is expected to be questioned by police.

Deveaux did not show any remorse for his actions in an interview with Expressen after Thursday’s game (begins at 18 seconds):

After having his contract terminated on Monday, Deveaux released a statement through Rogle apologizing, while also including, “I am not a violent person.”

Deveaux's agent, Aaron Schwartz, told Viasat Sport that he last spoke with his client on Monday and that he isn't sure if he'd left Sweden already. "All I know is that he has a hearing with Ice Hockey Federation on Wednesday," he said.
