Simon Gagne extended training camp invite by Bruins (Report)

As we sail into the end of August, this is about the time we'll start hearing names of players receiving training camp invites. Simon Gagne is reportedly one of those players.

According to TVA Sports' Renaud Lavoie, the Boston Bruins have invited the 34-year old Gagne to camp next month. He sat out last season after failing to sign with a team and joined TVA as a hockey analyst in January.

Gagne last played an NHL game on April 27, 2013, a 2-1 season finale win for the Philadelphia Flyers over the Ottawa Senators. After signing a two-year deal with the LA Kings in the summer of 2011, he was dealt in February 2013 back to the city where his career began and put up five goals and 11 points in 27 games.

The Bruins, as we know, are in a bit of a cap crunch at the moment and still need to re-sign Torey Krug and Reilly Smith, both restricted free agents. Gagne could represent an insurance policy if injury should strike Boston's forward group and the winger puts in a good showing at camp. Otherwise, this opportunity will serve as a good showcase for any interested teams.
