Howard Eskin, who hosts a radio show on WIP radio and works for FOX 29 in Philadelphia, dropped a bomb on Twitter on Thursday:

“I'm not hearing good news bout Sidney Crosby. Being told he is likely out for rest of season with concussion symptoms.”

Cue panic from Pittsburgh Penguins fans. Cue the refutation of that report by the totality of the hockey media.

From Rob Rossi of the Tribune-Review:

Captain Sidney Crosby visited with teammates and Penguins personnel on Thursday, prior to an optional practice at Consol Energy Center. Crosby did not speak with reporters, but teammates reported him to again be in good spirits. He had surgery to repair a broken jaw and a dental procedure since taking a puck to the face in the Penguins' home win over the New York Islanders on Saturday afternoon. Crosby likely will require at least one more dental procedure to fix his teeth, but his jaw is not wired shut and he continues to show no concussion symptoms. Crosby has not resumed off-ice workouts and is out indefinitely.

Pierre LeBrun of ESPN also reported that Crosby is symptom-free, according to his agent Pat Brisson.

Eskin’s report gained traction because he’s had good information in the past, but has also whiffed on scoops. Please recall his claim that James van Riemsdyk was delaying surgery to hold up a Rick Nash trade to the Philadelphia Flyers.
