Sidney Crosby named captain of Canadian Olympic team; also, water is still wet

If you asked the entirety of the NHL’s players who the best captain in the League is, we’d imagine Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins would get the majority of the votes. And now he’ll captain some of them at the Olympics.

Crosby was named captain of Team Canada’s team for the Sochi 2014 Olympics on Sunday, with Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks and Shea Weber of the Nashville Predators as the alternates.

Crosby was an alternate with the 2010 Vancouver Olympics gold medal-winning team, with Scott Niedermayer having the captaincy.

If there was one contender that might have usurped Crosby’s captaincy, it was Toews, the only player in the NHL that can match Crosby’s accomplishments if not completely match his talents on the ice.

But there’s one, huge, undeniable difference between the two that we imagine was the determining factor in this decision:

Sidney Crosby has one the Mark Messier Leadership Award. [Insert Trumpet Fanfare]

Jonathan Toews has not.
