Sharks vs. Penguins: Stanley Cup Final Game 3 Live Blog
11:41 p.m. ET: Even though the Penguins outshot the Sharks by a wide margin, San Jose held the territorial advantage for Game 3. They took 79 shot attempts to the Penguins' 76.
11:39 p.m. ET: The Sharks were outshot 42-26 but still figured out how to win. The boxscore from Game 3:
11:29 p.m. ET: Joonas Donskoi with the overtime winner at the 12:48 mark of the extra session. Goes around the net and fires high on Matt Murray from a tough angle in front. Series now 2-1.
11:24 p.m. ET: A two-bearded argument.
— Stephanie (@myregularface) June 5, 2016
11:21 p.m. ET: Another fantastic chance by Joe Thornton. On a 2-on-1 took a feed from Joe Pavelski but just couldn't put the puck past Matt Murray. Evgeni Malkin just mised a deflection on the ensuing rush.
11:16 p.m. ET: Excellent chance by Joe Thornton early in overtime. Again the strategy for the Sharks is to go high glove on Matt Murray. Thornton doesn't shoot much but when he gets a hold of a shot he can put a lot of weight behind it.

11:11 p.m. ET: Overtime has started! Who will win?
11:07 p.m. ET: Are the Sharks due?
All-time playoff OT records:@SanJoseSharks: 20-21 (9-9 at home; 0-4 in 2016)@penguins: 28-26 (11-10 on road; 4-2 in 2016)#StanleyCup

11:00 p.m. ET: Puck Daddy overtime picks!:
Greg Wyshynski: Brent Burns (SJ)/Conor Sheary (PIT)
Jen Neale: Brent Burns (SJ)/Kris Letang (PIT)
Josh Cooper: Joe Thornton (SJ)/Nick Bonino (PIT)
Sean Leahy: Stephane Matteau (SJ)/ John Cullen (PIT)
10:58 p.m. ET: The Sharks have held a 68-60 shot attempts advantage this game, which has been far-and-away their best game of the Cup Final.
10:55 p.m. ET: We're headed to overtime for the second straight Cup Final game!
10:53 p.m. ET: Brent Burns is normally pretty good at getting his shots through to the net. Not this game.
Brent Burns has had 12 of 15 shot attempts blocked now. This is loco
— Michael Russo (@Russostrib) June 5, 2016
10:50 p.m. ET: A Paul Martin pinch leads to a 2-on-1 the other way between Matt Cullen and Erc Fehr. As Greg Wyshynski pointed out earlier, Fehr has had a strong game.
10:46 p.m. ET: Penguins coach Mike Sullivan just loaded up with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin on the same line. They just generated zone time and scoring chances. Even though the Sharks have outplayed the Penguins since the first period this game is still 2-2 and up for grabs with 3:36 to go. Will this decision by Sullivan to shorten the bench pay off for the Penguins?
10:42 p.m. ET: Frustration from the Pittsburgh ownership box?

10:35 p.m. ET: The Sharks' shot attempts have zoomed up this period. That four-minute double-minor was a big reason.
10:31 p.m. ET: Joel Ward with an absolute rocket that beat Matt Murray's glove. Tied at 2-2 with 11:12 left in the third.
10:29 p.m. ET: The Penguins have killed off the first minor. Patrick Marleau had a great chance early on off the faceoff but couldn't beat Matt Murray's glove.
10:24 p.m. ET: Penguins get a four-minute double-minor for high sticking on Nick Bonino. Big chance for the Sharks to tie this game up.
10:24 p.m. ET: The Sharks are again loading up on that first-line. Added Couture again with Pavelski and Thornton.
10:19 p.m. ET: Joe Pavelski has still been held off the scoresheet this Final. He has just one shot attempt this game.
10:17 p.m. ET: The third period has started. Can the Sharks tie it up?
10:06 p.m. ET: Interesting note by San Jose Mercury News columnist Mark Purdy. The Sharks have found their game, which is great for them. But they also didn't take a lead which allowed Pittsburgh to go up 2-1.
Shark coach DeBoer said yesterday that key for his team would be not wasting the stretches of game when SJ was in charge. Well . . .
— Mark Purdy (@MercPurdy) June 5, 2016
10:02 p.m. ET: The Sharks have carried the play from late in the first period onward and it shows in the shot attempts chart. The Sharks have taken 41 total chot attempts to the Penguins' 39.
9:59 p.m. ET: After two periods the score is 2-1 Penguins. Sharks have been the better team for most of this game, but still find themselves down. Pittsburgh is one period away from taking a commanding 3-0 series lead. Can they hold on?
9:57 p.m. ET: The Penguins go up 2-1 at the 19:07 mark of the second period. Patric Hornqvist deflects a shot by Ben Lovejoy.
9:50 p.m. ET: Some interesting gamesmanship between Sharks coach Peter DeBoer and Pittsburgh's Mike Sullivan.
@Real_ESPNLeBrun And Pens respond by putting 71 and 87 together for a shift

Couture took a shift with the two Joe's. Interesting.

9:47 p.m. ET: Shots are 8-2 in favor of the Sharks this period. This is the first sustained pressure by San Jose all series. Looking like the Sharks of the prior three rounds finally.
9:44 p.m. ET: Really solid kill from the Penguins after Hagelin’s tripping penalty. They managed a few chances shorthanded, didn’t allow much time to set up for the Sharks. I’m not even sure if San Jose’s point men had the puck during those two minutes. Potential momentum-shifter. - WYSHYNSKI
9:44 p.m. ET: Power play over. Sharks are 1-for-4 with the man-advantage this series. Nothing doing for them.
9:43 p.m. ET: Want to know more about Marshawn Lynch, AKA Beast Mode at the SAP Center? Check out our blog.
9:41 p.m. ET: Pierre McGuire just interviewed Penguins coach Mike Sullivan who pointed out the difference for the Sharks. "We have to make better plays off the walls," Sullivan said. "They're being real aggressive on that forecheck."
9:39 p.m. ET: The Sharks have played in the offensive zone for most of this period and finally get rewarded with their first power play. Big chance for San Jose to take their first lead of the series.
9:35 p.m. ET: Kris Letang with a bad pinch. Logan Couture races down the ice on a 2-on-1 and fires a shot through Matt Murray. The puck hits the goalpost. Bad luck for the Sharks. The shot beat Murray.
9:34 p.m. ET: Notice how the Sharks have evened the possession battle from a shot attempts perspective. This has been San Jose's best stretch of hockey this series.
9:29 p.m. ET: Another great save by Matt Murray. Joel Ward tried to make a move alone in front, but seemed to run out of room. Shots on goal this period are 3-1 in favor of the Sharks.
9:28 p.m. ET: Brent Burns just had a glorious chance to put the Sharks up 2-1. Burns shot the puck into Matt Murray on a point-blank shot. The pass to Burns was from Melker Karlsson who has been solid on the first-line in place of the injured Tomas Hertl.
Sharks putting some serious pressure on Murray. Still 1-1. pic.twitter.com/5fyCakuqsU

9:26 p.m. ET: Maybe it's just me, but it sure feels like the referees are being more cognizant of faceoffs and kicking out players who are trying to get an advantage in the dot. Penguins are up 52 percent to 48 percent in the circle.
9:20 p.m. ET: The second period has started!
9:16 p.m. ET: Interesting note by the AP's Josh Dubow. The Sharks drew 3.5 power plays in the first three rounds of the playoffs. Through two games and one period they have three power plays. That's a major indicator why they're down 0-2. They have a 27.3 power play percentage in the playoffs.
9:14 p.m. ET: Quite a time to be a Bay Area sports fan. Golden State Warriors center Marreese Speights is at SAP Center supporting the Sharks.

9:03 p.m. ET: The shot attempts chart from Naturalstattrick. San Jose made some gains near the end of the period. Shot attempts are 24-20 in favor of the Penguins.
9:01 p.m. ET: End of one period. Score tied at 1-1 after an entertaining 20 minutes. Even though the Sharks have played better, they need to do something about how many shots they're allowing to the Penguins.
8:53 p.m. ET: This is scary looking behind the Sharks' bench.

8:52 p.m. ET: Well, we’re seeing Sharks Hockey now. Controlling play, getting zone time, preventing the Penguins from getting anything generated out of their own end. Still aren’t getting enough on Murray, but this is promising for San Jose. - WYSHYNSKI
8:50 p.m. ET: Here's the shot attempts chart for the first period.
8:47 p.m. ET: Sharks coach Peter DeBoer was interviewed by NBC's Pierre McGuire. Said his team is "jittery" but thinks they'll settle down.
8:45 p.m. ET: Martin Jones with a huge save on Phil Kessel off a breakaway. That could have been crushing for the Sharks.
8:43 p.m. ET: Well, there you go. Chomp, chomp – the Thornton line, which had dominated the Penguins’ fourth line all series, ties the game on a shot by Braun that Matt Murray never saw, from Thornton, his first point of the series. - WYSHYNSKI
Justin Braun (@SanJoseSharks) has goals in consecutive games for first time in his NHL career (412 GP, regular season/playoffs). #StanleyCup
— NHL Public Relations (@PR_NHL) June 5, 2016
8:43 p.m. ET: At the 9:34 mark of the first period, Sharks defenseman Justin Braun gets his second goal of the Cup Final. A wrist shot past Matt Murray. It's also the first home goal in Sharks Cup Final history, seeing that this is the first home game by the Sharks in a Cup Final. Tied at 1-1.
8:39 p.m. ET: With 11:50 to go in the first period, the San Jose Sharks have their first shot on goal of the game.
8:36 p.m. ET: The Pittsburgh Penguins’ fourth line should be getting eaten alive right now by the Sharks, considering they have the last change. Instead, they’ve earned a power play and helped make that Ben Lovejoy goal happen. Matt Cullen, doing work so far. - WYSHYNSKI
8:35 p.m. ET: At the first TV timeout, the Penguins have outshot the Sharks 5-0. Not the start you need from San Jose if you want to establish home ice advantage.
8:32 p.m. ET: The Penguins' fourth-line gets a goal. Ben Lovejoy point shot that seemed to knuckle. Matt Cullen was on the screen in front. Seemed that Sharks defenseman Roman Polak deflected it. Just 5:29 into the first period Pittsburgh has a 1-0 lead.
8:30 p.m. ET: Our own Greg Wyshynski went on a photo expedition around SAP Center in advance of the San Jose Sharks' first Satnley Cup Final game. Check it out!
8:28 p.m. ET: Joel Ward gets called for high-sticking. Penguins get the first power play of the game.
8:27 p.m. ET: The roster report for both teams for Game 3.
8:25 p.m. ET: Joe Pavelski was kicked out of the offensive zone faceoff against Sidney Crosby. Loud boos from the fans. Probably some residual from Logan Couture's comments that Crosby cheats on draws.
8:24 p.m. ET: Game 3 is underway in San Jose!
8:16 p.m. ET: Marshawn Lynch opens up the door for the Sharks from their locker room. They've had a different celebrity each home game. Sharks forward Joel Ward mentioned Lynch in a pre-game interview with NBC's Pierre McGuire. Lynch is from Oakland and went to Cal.
"The boys are fired up. We had Marshawn Lynch leading us out there today. We're all excited," he said.

8:08 p.m. ET: Interesting numbers considering that this series has felt so one-sided in favor of the Penguins. Also the Sharks haven't held a lead in this series yet.
The @penguins and @SanJoseSharks have been tied or separated by one goal for 92.5% of the time through the opening two games. #StanleyCup

7:55 p.m. ET: Your Sharks lineup update for Game 3. This is because of the Hertl injury.
Warmups: Karlsson is on the the top line, as expected. Marleau second line LW. Zubrus in. #SJSharks

7:53 p.m. ET: Here are the t-shirts the Sharks are giving away for Game 3. A play on the cult hit "Sharknado" staring Ian Ziering.
On every seat here at SAP Center, clearly a play on Sharknado. Pretty cool. pic.twitter.com/TJpbg6AbUs
— Dan Rosen (@drosennhl) June 4, 2016
7:50 p.m. ET: The Sharks and Penguins are warming up. Melker Karlsson will likely jump up to the first line with Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski. It's a big loss for the Sharks since Hertl has been their best forward through two games this series.
7:45 p.m. ET: Welcome to Puck Daddy's Stanley Cup Final Live Blog for Game 3 between the San Jose Sharks and Pittsburgh Penguins! Make sure to check back over the course of the game as we keep you updated with all the news and happenings on the ice and off the ice around the game.
