Scott Gomez earns one-year, two-way deal with Blues after tryout

Scott Gomez earns one-year, two-way deal with Blues after tryout

The St. Louis Blues announced on Wednesday that forward Patrik Berglund was placed on long-term injured reserve as he recovers from shoulder surgery. That move allowed GM Doug Armstrong to sign Scott Gomez.

The 35-year Gomez entered training camp with the Blues on a tryout and earned himself a one-year deal.

According to the Post-Dispatch’s Jeremy Rutherford, Gomez’s deal is two-way, meaning he’ll make $575,000 in the NHL and $200,000 in the AHL. His contract also includes a $125,000 bonus depending on the number of games he played and a $100,000 bonus that depends on how well the Blues do in the playoffs.

Last season, Gomez entered New Jersey Devils camp on a PTO and after practicing with the team for nearly two months eventually signed one-year deal in December. He would score seven goals and record 34 points in 58 games.

Given Gomez’s relationship with Lou Lamoriello, the forward could have been back with the Devils this season had Ray Shero not taken over as the franchise’s new general manager.

Gomez is now the second player who joined Blues camp on a tryout to sign this week following Scottie Upshall’s signing of a similar one-year, two-way deal.
