Sam Gagner’s broken jaw is a rather ghastly sight (Photo)

Pictured here: Sam Gagner, Edmonton Oilers center, in his official 2013-14 portrait photo. Look at him … boy next door or local pastor or that one waiter at Ruby Tuesdays that knows what’s on tap right down to the seasonal brews.

Remember that face.

That sweet, untouched, innocent face.

And now behold Sam Gagner after Zack Kassian of the Vancouver Canucks broke his jaw with a slash of his stick, which earned him an 8-game suspension:

EGADS! IT’S LIKE A SMALLER SAM GAGNER HEAD IS SLOWLY EMERGING FROM HIS LOWER GUM LINE!!!

Gagner tweeted that image with the following statement:

“Thank you all for the support. Excited to come back stronger and hopefully better looking than a few days ago.”

He’s scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday and is out indefinitely for the Oilers. It’s a tough loss for Edmonton, which will be without both Gagner and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Of course, the Nuge is simply rehabbing a shoulder injury after off-season surgery, while Gagner apparently was found roaming the ruins of Chernobyl by the looks of it.

He may be the first player in NHL to have an eight-point game and have eight teeth growing out of the same root. Godspeed in the recovery, good sir.
