Reimer's redemption: Jonathan Bernier out 2-3 weeks with MCL strain

The Toronto Maple Leafs' big victory over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night was not without casualties. Early in the third period, starting netminder Jonathan Bernier left the game after suffering an injury on a collision with Patrice Bergeron, who had been pushed into the crease by Paul Ranger.

James Reimer finished the game, and now, it would appear that he'll also be finishing the season.

Considering the regular season has only nine more days to live, not to mention the love for Reimer lost over the Leafs' recent, eight-game losing streak, that's less than ideal. It's a stroke of terrible luck for a Leafs team that's managed to win a couple games, both with Bernier starting in net, and give themselves a fighting chance to salvage the season.

But it's not the end of the world. With the wins, they're still in the running for a playoff spot, although their chances of making the playoffs still sit just below 10%, according to Sportsclubstats. And now it will be up to Reimer to beat those odds.

When Reimer surrendered the game-tying goal, to the Bruins no less, the deja vu was off the charts. But he managed to hold on long enough for the Leafs to eke out the overtime win.

And now the Leafs just need him to do that four more times.
