Record setting 28,815 teddy bears tossed in Calgary Hitmen game (Video)

Nobody does a Teddy Bear Toss quite like the Calgary Hitmen. Last year, the WHL team collected 25,214 stuffed animals in the annual event.

This year fans went all in. They sold out the Saddledome for the first time in Hitmen Teddy Bear Toss history leaving 19,289 people to toss a new record 28,815 stuffed toys to the ice. That's approximately 1.5 fuzzy friends per person.

In order for the throwing of toys to begin, someone needs to score a goal. The Swift Current Broncos took a 1-0 lead in to the second period. Only 2:41 into the second frame, Calgary's Jordy Stallard finally potted a goal.

LET THE INSANITY BEGIN!

Imagine sitting in the first couple of rows. You've got to throw on to the ice the stuffed animal that probably just pelted you in the back of the head, but it's for charity, so it's worth it! All the stuffed animals will be given to children who probably wouldn't have one if it weren't for events like these.

Volunteers and even the players helped pick up all the toys for counting and distribution.

After about a 40 minute delay, the match resumed. The game ended in a shootout with the Calgary Hitmen prevailing 2-1.
