Paul Stastny out for 5 weeks with broken foot; who moves up with Tarasenko?

The St. Louis Blues are off to a 5-2-0 start this season, which is solid. Paul Stastny played in five of those games, and had a goal and four assists. Not too shabby.

Alas, the Blues will be without the center for at least the next five weeks due to a broken foot he sustained in a win against the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 16. Blues GM Doug Armstrong said the team placed him on IR and that his foot will be evaluated in five weeks.

Stastny, who missed the past two games, will miss at least the next 16 games based on the timeline of when he would be re-evaluated. The earliest possible return date would be Nov. 28 against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Stastny joins forwards Patrik Berglund (shoulder) and Robby Fabbri (concussion) on injured-reserve; defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk is listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

With Stastny out of the lineup, it will likely leave veteran Scott Gomez in the lineup along with that of veteran Scottie Upshall; both were brought in during training camp on professional tryouts and signed one-year contracts.

Stastny played with Alex Steen and Vladimir Tarasenko before the injury. Gomez saw time with Tarasenko during the Blues’ shutout loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night. He had been mostly centering Dmitrij Jaskin and Scottie Upshall.

But center Jori Lehtera also saw time with Tarasenko, and it's hard to fathom that these linemates from last season aren't going to be paired again while Stastny's on the mend.

Lehtera with Tarasenko last season: 52.9 percent Corsi at 5-on-5. Without: 48.2 percent.
