Pass or Fail: Columbus Blue Jackets jersey that might have been
Last summer, Uni Watch ranked the Columbus Blue Jackets’ jerseys as the ninth-best in the NHL, which is pretty high when you look at the previous “best hockey jersey” lists. There was a chance the design could have gone in a different direction when the franchise was born in 2000.
Blue Jackets Pucks and Stuff was sent an interesting photo of a concept jersey that the team could have chosen as their initial look.
Having the tie down on the collar would have made the Blue Jackets a bit of a trend-setter as BJPS points out:
The use of a tie down on the front of the jersey would eventually become an element in the first Columbus alternate jersey in 2003 as well as the current alternate introduced in 2010. At the time, it would have made Columbus the second team in the league to utilize this now common (and overused) design.
The chevrons on the arms is a nice touch, but when you add the player numbers on the sleeve, you could imagine things getting a bit busy. And the light blue color should remind us of the Quebec Nordiques, but the longer we look at it, the more we can help but keep thinking Atlanta Thrashers.
The Blue Jackets' brass definitey made the right choice and their jerseys have slowly evolved over the last decade.
