Pass or Fail: New York Rangers Yankee Stadium jerseys

As with the other Stadium Series jerseys, your reaction to the New York Rangers’ sweaters for their games against the New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders at Yankee Stadium next month will depend on your expectations for said sweaters.

Like, for example, hoping against hope that the Anaheim Ducks’ sweaters would have a Mighty Ducks retro logo on the front. And harboring the same hope that the Rangers might resurrect the Liberty Head logo for their spiffy outdoor jerseys this season.

Alas, that is not in the cards for the “chrome logo” jerseys of the Stadium Series, so the Rangers are essentially wearing a color-tweaked, shimmery version of their usual duds.

That’s not to say they aren’t spiffy looking, because that’s a sharp-looking take on an Original Six classic. It’ll look solid when matched up against the New York Islanders’ blue jerseys and the New Jersey Devils’ Christmas Tree classics (yet to be released).

The Rangers also deserve bonus points for creating a goofy little video that features some Yankees-related sight gags:

The comic stylings of Dan Girardi, ladies and gents.

UPDATE: A number of readers have pointed out that the Rangers' inspiration for these jerseys might have been their AHL affiliate's old sweaters in Hartford, during the WolfPack days:

So, with all that, what say you?
