NHL Three Stars: Oilers stun Penguins; Bobrovsky pitches shutout

No. 1 Star: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Edmonton Oilers

The Nuge scored a power-play goal at 1:01 of overtime from Jordan Eberle, as the Oilers upset the Pittsburgh Penguins, 4-3. It was Nugent-Hopkins’s second of the night and second on the power play. He added an assist on Taylor Hall’s third-period goal as well.

No. 2 Star: Sergei Bobrovsky, Columbus Blue Jackets

The Jackets goalie made 36 saves as Columbus blanked the Carolina Hurricanes, 3-0. Boone Jenner and Brandon Dubinsky spotted him a two-goal lead in the first period, and Bob didn’t look back.

No. 3 Star: Michael Grabner, New York Islanders

The Islanders forward used his speed to earn two chances in overtime against Semyon Varlamov, and he cashed in the second for the 2-1 win at Colorado. Kevin Poulin made 31 saves.

Honorable mention: Rick Nash scored at 18:02 of the third period to lead the New York Rangers to a 3-2 win over the Dallas Stars. … Joel Ward’s third period goal was the difference as the Washington Capitals defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs, 3-2. Alex Ovechkin scored his 32nd in the win, while Phil Kessel scored his 21st. … Mike Santorelli broke a 1-1 tie with a third-period goal as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the St. Louis Blues, 2-1, snapping their seven-game winning streak.
