NHL Three Stars: Frattin’s chip shot tops Sabres; Sharks stay perfect; Kaleta to hospital

No. 1 Star: Matt Frattin, Toronto Maple Leafs

The Leafs forward scored with 0.6 seconds left in overtime, chipping the puck past Ryan Miller of the Buffalo Sabres for the 4-3 victory. He earlier scored in the second period, as Buffalo dropped to 29-9-5 vs. the Leafs at home since 1996.

No. 2 Star: Antti Niemi, San Jose Sharks

It wasn’t easy, but the Sharks goaltender backstopped his team to a 6-0-0 start in a win over the Anaheim Ducks in the shootout. Niemi made 28 saves and two more in the shootout, as the Sharks won the game, 3-2.

No. 3 Star: Valtteri Filppula, Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit forward answered Loui Eriksson’s second-period goal less than three minutes after it was scored, and then closed out the scoring with his second of the season just 23 seconds after Damien Brunner scored in the third. The Red Wings defeated the Dallas Stars, 4-1.

Honorable Mention: Michael Del Zotto had a goal and an assist and Henrik Lundqvist made 26 saves as the New York Rangers defeated the Philadelphia Flyers, 2-1. … Matt Moulson had a goal and an assist while Evgeni Nabokov made 37 saves in the New York Islanders’ 4-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. … Tomas Plekanec’s third-period power-play goal was the difference in a back-and-forth affair between the Montreal Canadiens and the Winnipeg Jets. Did You Know? The Wild/Blue Jackets game was stopped briefly midway through the second after linesman Thor Nelson was hit in the side of the face with the puck on a clearing attempt.
