NHL Three Stars: Martin Jones shuts out Leafs; Flyers rout Bolts

No. 1 Star: Martin Jones, Los Angeles Kings

Jones made 19 saves on 19 shots as the Kings shut out the Toronto Maple Leafs, 2-0. Anze Kopitar and Marion Gaborik had the goals; Kopitar and Jeff Carter had two points.

No. 2 Star: Braden Holtby, Washington Capitals

Holtby was tasked with preserving Alex Ovechkin’s go-ahead goal in the second period. He did so by making 18 saves in the third period as the Capitals defeated Semyon Varlamov and the Colorado Avalanche, 2-1. Holtby made 31 saves in the game. 

No. 3 Star: Mark Streit, Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers defenseman picked up a goal and two assists in their 7-3 rout of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Honorable Mention: Steven Stamkos scored his 23rd in the loss. … Jakub Voracek had a goal and an assist. …  Alex Tanguay scored his 13th. … Claude Giroux had two assists. … Rob Zepp moved to 2-0-0 for the Flyers. 

Did You Know? It was Ovechkin’s 74th game-winning goal, passing Peter Bondra as the Capitals’ all-time leader.

Dishonorable Mention: Evgeni Nabokov gave up four goals on 13 shots before being pulled in the first 22:36 of the game for the Bolts. … Tyler Johnson and Victor Hedman were injured for Tampa.
