NHL Three Stars: Crosby, Fleury lead Penguins; Kane powers Blackhawks over Jets

Jets lose and Evander Kane shirsey’s hit the ice.

No. 1 Stars: Sidney Crosby, Marc-Andre Fleury, Pittsburgh Penguins

The Penguins blanked the Calgary Flames 4-0 as Fleury made 21 saves for his eighth shutout of the season, a franchise record. Crosby scored twice and assisted on another as Pittsburgh jumped ahead of the idle New York Islanders for the Metropolitan Division lead. Chris Kunitz helped set up three of the Penguins' four goals, including both of Crosby's.

No. 2 Star: Patrick Kane, Chicago Blackhawks

The leading scorer of the Blackhawks netted a pretty backhand goal in the second period and later helped set up Brandon Saad’s overtime winner in a 2-1 defeat of the Winnipeg Jets. Kane's two points now ties him with Jakub Voracek for the NHL lead at 58. First, here’s the goal:

…now here he is driving to the net and setting up Saad:

No. 3 Star: Nick Foligno, Columbus Blue Jackets

Foligno was one of 12 Blue Jackets who recorded at least a point in their 7-1 rout of the St. Louis Blues. He scored twice, reaching the 20-goal plateau, a career high, and assisted on another. Ryan Johansen also recorded three points with his first career shorthanded goal and two assists, while Corey Tropp, Brandon Dubinsky and Scott Hartnell each had two points apiece.

Honorable Mention: This goal by Cam Atkinson was something out of a pinball game … Cory Schneider made 32 saves and Patrik Elias scored his 400th career NHL goal as the New Jersey Devils beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-1. Jaromir Jagr scored his 716th career NHL goal to move to within one of Phil Esposito for fifth on the all-time list … Making his first start since Jan. 19, 2014, Philipp Grubauer made 23 saves, plus two in the shootout as the Washington Capitals edged the Anaheim Ducks 3-2. Jason Chimera had a goal and an assist, while Evgeny Kuznetsov recorded a pair of helpers ... This was a pretty nifty move by Troy Brouwer to keep the puck in the zone and help set up Chimera's goal:

Did You Know? Patrick Kane’s tally ended a goalless streak for the Blackhawks that lasted 149:25.

Dishonorable Mention: Ryan Getzlaf missed his second straight game for the Ducks with an upper-body injury … Toronto’s loss was their 11th in a row, setting a franchise record … Brian Elliott was chased by the Blue Jackets after allowing four goals on 14 shots through 28:26 … The loss snapped the Blues’ seven-game win streak, as well as their 13-game point streak.
