NHL Death Watch: Elimination night for Blue Jackets, Stars and Jets?
Since we're down to the final moments of postseason life for teams in contention, Puck Daddy solemnly begins a daily countdown to annihilation.
Fare thee well Phoenix Coyotes, who were eliminated from playoff contention after the Detroit Red Wings’ victory on Wednesday night.
And oh my, what a victory. The Red Wings moved back into the No. 8 seed with their win over the Kings, turning Thursday night into a possible elimination night for both the Columbus Blue Jackets and Dallas Stars.

The Jets could be eliminated tonight based on what they do against the Montreal Canadiens and what the Rangers do against the Carolina Hurricanes. If the Jets lose in regulation, they're toast. If the Rangers and Senators both win, they're toast. If the Rangers lose in either regulation or OT and the Jets win, the Jets will still need them to lose in regulation to the Devils on Saturday night. The Senators have a game in-hand.
The Senators can clinch with two points against the Caps or a Jets regulation loss, or an overtime loss coupled with a Jets' OT loss.

In getting just one point out of an 0-2-1 road trip against three playoff teams, the Stars have seen their chances of making the playoffs slip to almost nothing. They must beat both the Columbus Blue Jackets and Detroit Red Wings in regulation and then hope for help from other teams. If they do that, their reward will be a first-round playoff meeting with the best team in hockey, the Chicago Blackhawks.
The players said they can’t think of all of the obstacles.
“Desperation, do or die,” said Jamie Benn when asked what the mind-set is for the final two games. “There are still four [points] out there that we can get, and you never know what can happen.”
Detroit faces Nashville; Columbus is at Dallas. This should be fun.
