Canadian junior hockey fan takes heckling way too seriously (Video)

Hockey fans are known for their extreme passion, which often gets a little too crazy at times. Hence why hockey parents are known as the scourge of sporting humanity in most North American circles, just above tennis parents and soccer parents.

And now we give you a guy who isn’t a parent (we hope), but has taken heckling to a science … and to horrifying (and in this video hilarious) levels. Cory Simms, explain to us why you love the St. John’s Caps junior team, and why you heckle the crap out of their opponents? (s/t Deadspin)

“if the hockey moms can’t handle me yelling and heckling at the rinks, then they should stick to crosswords and knitting,” he said.

He also said that if hockey players don’t like his shenanigans, they can go to “tiddlywinks” or “Playstation.”

In defense of his actions, Sims says, he’s not like ISIS, which hence makes what he does OK.

But he has crossed the line at times, according to Conception Bay Junior Renegades executive Kevin Tobin:

While the man isn't profane, Tobin said he's extremely aggressive.

"He's screaming and yelling at the players, he's yelling at the parents," said Tobin.

"There was a player injured and was taken off the ice and he was standing near the boards, blocking the path of taking the player to the dressing room."

Tobin said it's taking a toll on some of the young people at the games. He recalled seeing one child, aged seven or eight, with tears in his eyes.

"It's different than heckling like, 'Come on, come on, you can do better than that,' or trying to poke fun at certain players," said Tobin.

"It's, in my opinion, crossing the line."

If that wasn’t so awful, it would be funny. We know hockey is an obsession in Canada, but this isn’t even Major Junior. This is the St. John’s Junior Hockey League. While I don’t deny that teams from small towns have fans partially because they bring communities together, this is ... yeah. This league has squads like the Mount Pearl Blades and Trinity Placentia Jr. Flyers. Teams many probably hadn’t heard of until they read this blog.

But hey man, if this is your passion, go for it, just try to chill a little. Think of the children … err teenagers.
